[2007-02-05]Production at SSAB Oxelösund
After the explosion at the AGA oxygen plant at SSAB Oxelösund on October 18 production is almost back to normal. The re-start of the two blast furnaces have been succesful and the production of raw iron started again October 28.
The steel mill started producing the first charge October 29 and AGA oxygen tanks 1-7 are in operation which means that the LD converter in the steel mill can produce at normal speed.
Right now SSAB Oxelösund and AGA are dicussing to start operating the rest of the oxygen tanks.
After the explosion there was a temporary lack of slabs in Oxelösund and it was decided to order slabs from the blast furnace in Luleå in the north of Sweden. Those slabs have arrived and are ready for rolling in the rolling mill.
The investigation to find the problem that caused the explosion in the AGA oxygen plant is still ongoing . This investigation is headed by the Swedish Accident Investigation Board (SHK).
