In environmental matters, SSAB Oxelösund AB is in the “Premier League” of the world’s steelworks. We are continually following environmental issuses - both nationally and internationally.

Our steel production must be economical in regard to resources and efficient in the use of raw materials, energy and other natural resources. Our business operations presuppose environmental work that contributes to durable and sustainable development of steel use in society.

Environmental work is an integral part of our day-to-day operations. Our work is based on an environmental policy (link to Policy). This means that we must give priority to processes and transport systems that minimize the environmental impact.

Our tasks are:

• to assess the environmental consequences of any changes we make
• to prevent the risk of inadvertent emissions
• to have safety arrangements in place to minimize the environmental consequences of breakdowns
• to select the best available technology when introducing changes

The policy is in accordance with what the international steel industry and the international Chamber of Commerce regard as essential for sustainable development.

SSAB Oxelösund AB introduced the Environmental Management System (ISO 14 001) in 2004.
