Several projects we completed in recent years have enabled us to improve appreciably the environment in our neighbourhood.

Awareness
Environmental work is a natural part of our day-to-day operations. To ensure that our environmental impact will be as low as possible, we must

• maintain our plants in a good and efficient way
• minimize the energy consumption of our plants
• put to use the greatest possible proportion of our residual products 
• have high competence in the operation and maintenance of our plants
• remedy quickly any faults and shortcomings that may arise in our equipment and plants
• select raw materials and chemicals with due regard to the residual  products, emissions and working environment.

Knowledge
In order to minimize the risks of inadvertent emissions and accidents, work is continually in progress on

• training the employees
• ensuring high competence in the company
• having clear operating instructions
• undertaking risk analyses and continually attending to any faults and shortcomings
• carrying out inspections and checks in the plant

When building new plants, we must employ the best available technology.

Openness
We do our best to have good relations with the authorities and our local neighborhood. So it is important for us to be open in declaring our environmental results. We report the environmental results to the County Administrative Board every month, and the report is also made available to the general public.

Words became action
History clearly demonstrates that the emissions from our steel production have been dramatically reduced over the last 15 years.

Sampling in the sea outside the steelworks has revealed steady recovery. The earlier environmental impact has been reduced by lower emissions. The spread of metals to the environment has been reduced since the treatment plants were installed.
